Gambling den busted in Gadong
By M K Anwar

Confiscated slot machines
Acting on a tip off from the public,
CID personnel from the BSB Central Police raided a gambling den
Thursday afternoon. Headed by the Acting DSO Brunei District Insp.
Norkamal bin Hj Thani, a team of 20 CID personnel raided the suspected
room, located at an apartment block in the Gadong Commercial area, at
4 pm. 8 slot machines and some Mahjong tables were found inside the
room. The raiding party had to break through the three reinforced
doors leading to the gambling room. The police also found B$3000 worth
of tokens used for gambling. An anonymous person who had visited the
gambling den said that the tokens cost B$1.00 or fifty cents each.
Gamblers using the slot machines would use these tokens and later
redeem them to claim their winnings.
A man was also detained by the CID
personnel during the raid. He will be remanded for further
investigation.
This is the second gambling den
raided by the police. Another one was raided only last week in the
same vicinity.
All the items and equipment used for
gambling were confiscated by the police. Although the raided building
was located in the busy commercial area, people were unaware of the
afternoon raid as the attention was drawn towards the bomb hoax at
Centrepoint building at the time.
