Appeal Dismissed, Drug Abuser To Continue Rehabilitation
By Rol Ezam

Bandar Seri Begawan - Mr Justice Dato Steven Chong dismissed an appeal made by a father of six yesterday to discharge from the drug rehabilitation centre.

The appellant, Hamiroldzam Hj Abd Hamid, said he did not challenge the propriety of the rehabilitation order.

He contended that having already undergone rehabilitation for four months, he should now be discharged.

Earlier in the Magistrate's Court, Hamiroldzam pleaded guilty to two counts of consumption of Methylamphetamine, two counts of possession of drugs and one charge of possession of apparatus intended for the consumption of a controlled drug.

The Magistrate, Radin Safiee Radin Mas Basiuni, imposed fines totalling $5,500 or 11 months imprisonment in default of payment.

The day after he was fined, the Magistrate ordered the appellant to undergo rehabilitation at Rumah Al-Islah. The rehabilitation order was made pursuant to section 29(4) of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The Magistrate considered a medical report recommending rehabilitation after stating the appellant's urine specimen was analysed and found to contain Methylamphetamine.
