Posters and leaflets on the killer virus
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)
has become the top agenda among schoolteachers in the country. This is
especially obvious during morning assemblies with their respective
students, who are briefed on the threat of the virus that has killed
many people worldwide.
A teacher at Sg Hanching Primary
School said those who are not feeling well, particularly those with
high fever, are asked to seek immediate medical attention. They need
not come to school but instead should ask their parents to send them
to the hospital.
In a circular letter to parents, the
school authority has outlined new steps and acts which follow the
guidelines from Ministry of Education. Among them are to look after
hygiene, avoid crowded places, read "Surah Yassin" and
perform "Sunat Hajat prayer at home. The Ministry of Health has
also asked people to avoid travelling to affected countries.
For further information, parents can
contact SARS Operation Room, Ministry of Education at 2380620/2381224
during office hours and 8864945 after office hours or SARS Operation
Room, Ministry of Health at 2382401/2382044 /2382755.
According to Hjh Hamsah, the Ministry
of Health has distributed 3 types of posters and provided 200 copies
of the Health Advice in English and
Malays for travellers at entry points to the country such as the
Brunei International Airport and Sg Tujuh Control Post.
A total of 10,000 copies on Facts You
Should Know About SARS have been printed for the public. These have
been put up in shopping centres, petrol stations, government
ministries and departments, schools, hospitals, health centres as well
as private clinics.
Another three types of leaflets have
also been printed - 5,000 copies on Health Advice, 10,000 copies on
Facts You Should Know About SARS and 5,000 on Health Alert.
