In conjunction with the Islamic New Year 1424, a Nasyid competition was held between groups of students in Jefri Bolkiah College, yesterday morning. The event was also held to celebrate the conversion of one of its students, Awg Affandy bin Ujang to Islamic faith.

Chief Guest at the competition was the Deputy Principle of the college, Cikgu Affandy bin Awg Damit.

The event's chairman, Ustaz Hj Abdul Razak bin Hj Ismail noted in his speech that the competition is organised by the Islamic bodies of the college and that it was held for the second time.

Four female and three male groups participated in the competition. The objective of the religious event was to train and choose the winning team to compete in the national level, added Ustaz Hj Abdul Razak.

A 'Berbedak' ceremony and a 'Menabur bunga rampai' ceremony was also conducted after the competition yesterday, as part of celebrating one of its students, Awg Affandy, who had converted to Muslim last month.

In the male category, the Sirojul Fadhli group won first place, whilst the female category was won by the Ukh Watunnisa group.
