IBB officials briefed students during the visit
Universiti Brunei Darussalam has
introduced "Introduction to Islamic Banking and Finance" as
one of the eight courses contained in the minor programme for Islamic
Banking and Finance. A total of twenty-eight students studying in the
second year have opted for this programme. Yesterday afternoon, they
went for an educational visit to the IBB, headed by Hjh Salma Hj Abdul
Latiff, the Head of Department of Management Studies, Faculty of
Business, Economics and Policy Studies at UBD.
Abd Razak Bin Ismail from the Public
Affairs and Procurement Department of IBB delivered his welcoming
remarks to the students.
They had the opportunity to watch
IBB's corporate video and also a question-and-answer session with Mr
Kenneth Lim King Lian, Manager of the Branch Division and Dahang
Bunchuan, Manager of the Financing Department. They were highlighting
the IBB products and services.
Part of the course comprises a
project that entails an analysis - of the application of theoretical
knowledge on Islamic Banking to practical situations.
According to Hjh Salma, the students
need to visit local banks to perform their research and present
assignments. The assignment exercise contributes to ten per cent of
their final examination results.
The areas that are of importance to
students are Saving and Current Account, Pawning, ATM and Credit Card,
Bank Charges, Corporate and Individual Loans, Investment and Fixed
Deposits and Remittances and Foreign Exchanges.
According to Hjh Salma, this exercise
has been found to be useful, as students were able to see first-hand
the practical banking tools that are applied in an Islamic Bank. It is
hoped that the visit would be beneficial in relation to their courses.
The students then had the chance to
tour the Financing Department, Operation Division and Main Branch
around the IBB.
