PDS International School has once
again become a venue for discovering a new kind of musical invention
in a workshop held at the PDS-IS Main Hall yesterday. The workshop
which was organised by the Office for Student Affairs for PDS School,
in cooperation with the Brunei Music Society, brought to school the
famous musical group called Nova Ensemble, whose innovative use of
industrial and recyclable materials has brought them fame and
admiration from around the world.
Nova's music spans the breadth of
percussion, woodwind and horns. But it's not until you've heard these
instruments in play that the mastery and sheer joy of this group is
unfolded. Nova is a five-member band led by multi-wind instrumentalist
Mark Cain. Mark is renowned for his innovative use of PVC pipe and
other industrial materials dating back to his work with Ac/PVC in the
80's.
The students truly enjoyed this
one-of-a-kind performance staged by Nova that day. They were also
entertained by the musician's warmth and humour during and in between
performances. After watching and learning the wonders of music
innovation, the students of PDS International School had the chance to
try and experiment with the different instruments that were used by
the group.
