Muslims Crossing Over The Border For A Quick Drink Questioned

Bandar Seri Begawan - "Don't drink and drive, value life." That seemed to be the message the Limau Manis Police and the Syariah Affairs officers wanted to convey when they conducted a raid on Monday night.

Codenamed "Operasi Semerbak 1", the operation was also aimed at nabbing traffic offenders, Muslims who crossed the border to have a " quick drink" which is an offence under the Kadhi Court as well as look for stolen vehicles that intend to slip out of the country across the border.

The police said that some 19 four-wheel drive vehicles have been reported stolen and they were looking for suspects who were trying to transport these stolen vehicles out of the country.

Eleven Religious Enforcement Officers from Syariah Affairs Department led by Hj Abdul Rahman and nine police Limau Manis station led By Inspector Pg. Hj Damit conducted the one and half hour operation that begain at 8.30 pm.

Those who drive under the influence of alcohol are one of the contributing factors in car accidents. Not only the casualties include the drivers and passengers themselves, but also pedestrians and property.

During the raid, the officers found three foreign women carrying dubious chicken meat and questioned several local Muslims who crossed the border to have a "drink". (Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin)
