Shopkeepers urged to display ‘within
limits'
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Shop displays products beyond its allotted business perimeters
A number of shops in various
commercial complexes are still flouting the regulation by displaying
their products at car parking spaces, consumers said. They said some
shops utilised the spaces as extended kitchens to clean their dirty
plates, thus depriving the public of valuable parking space.
The relevant authority, the Town and
Country Planning Department had earlier stated that parking spaces
should not be used to display products.
At one shop in Gadong, the
establishment even stationed a sales attendant to serve customers at
the parking space.
"The use of parking spaces for
display purposes would not only deprive the public of parking spaces
but may also even pose a fire hazard," said an observer.
"Furthermore, the products are
fire prone and could help spread fire quickly, apart from becoming
eyesores."
Last month in Kuala Belait, the
authorities warned shops and supermarkets not to display their goods
beyond the perimeters of their business premises.
The measure was taken was to ensure
that emergency and exit lanes are not blocked in cases of emergency
such as fire.
