Crime In Brunei Closely Related To
Drug Abuse, Police Probe Reveals

Begawan - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Gadong
Police Headquarters has conclusively solved 17 criminal cases in
Bandar Seri Begawan and the surrounding areas this year, the police
said yesterday.
Properties confiscated amounted to
$100,000 which included cars reported missing.
Eight car thefts and nine
housebreaking cases have been solved successfully, the police added.
The majority of the offenders caught
are locals between 15 and 34 years old. Ten were unemployed. One was
student and the other a uniformed member of the government.
The screening and investigation
indicated they were involved in drug abuse.
In solving the criminal cases, the
CID of the Gadong Police Headquarters displayed stolen vehicles
confiscated from offenders.
The most expensive goods retrieved
were computers and six sets of radio cassettes players complete with
amplifiers estimated to cost $40,000. Also retrieved were jewelleries
and $6,000 in cash.
