Slipping And Falling, Road Mishaps
and Poisoning Why Bruneians Get Injured

Princess Rahimah
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Her Royal Highness Princess Rashidah Saadatul Bolkiah
yesterday heard that slipping and falling, road mishaps and poisoning
were why most Bruneians ended up injured.
The Brunei Princess was attending a
ceremony to launch World Health Day at the International Convention
Centre in Berakas yesterday.
Health Minister Pehin Dato Awang Haji
Abu Bakar in his opening address noted that slipping and falling, road
mishaps and poisoning were the main causes of reported accidental
injuries in Brunei.
Since March this year, a total of 311
children have been admitted to hospital with accidental injuries. Of
the total, 12 were fatal.
Pehin Abu Bakar said this year a
total of 75 people were involved in road accidents in which three
died. Tragic accidents in which casualties or fatalities involved
children brought so much grief to their families.
Therefore, the minister underscored
the role of parents and guardians to ensure the utmost safety
precaution be taken for children while travelling.
This is a continuous responsibility
until the children could look after themselves, he said.
He urged everyone to work together
towards achieving a healthier and safer environment for the future of
children in Brunei.
This year's event carries the theme,
'Shape the future of life, healthy environment for children.'
Various schools presented
performances in relations to this year's theme. Princess Rahimah
Sanaul Bolkiah was among those who performed.
The World Health Organisation (WHO)
focused on the need for everyone to commit to turning the three of
life's assets to the highest quality. These assets were health,
environment and children.
They are related to one another and
ensure that a healthy environment is important for a better life in
the future.
The function also coincided with the
presentation of prizes to winners in a drawing and colouring contest
held in conjunction with World Health Day.
