St Michael's awards outstanding
students

St. Michael's School recently held
its prize-giving ceremony for outstanding students of 2002. Present to
grace the ceremony was Cikgu Arsad bin Abdul Adis, the Acting Director
of Examinations from the Ministry of Education. Also present were the
school's Chairman, Mr. Andrew Wong, parents and students from Primary
1 to Form 5. In his speech, Cikgu Arsad noted the improvement the
school had made over the last five years. He said that examination
results are still indicators of a school's progress. In this respect,
he was pleased to say that in the GCE, the school had improved from
40% passes in 1998 to 78.5% passes in 2002. The school's PSR results
had also improved from 85% in 1998 to 90% in 2002. In the PMB, he
observed that the percentage of students streamed into O-levels had
increased, while the percentage of N-level students had decreased.
The school awarded prizes and
certificates to top students from every class and top students in the
public examinations. In addition, there were special categories such
as the Community Award, the Best Athlete Award, the Most Voracious
Reader Award, and the Best Scholarship Student.
The Student of the Year Award went to
Ak Shahyzul who not only topped the Form 5 class but was also the
school's most active and top GCE student.
