Choosing what colours to use
A colouring contest organised by the
Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet at Mukim Sengkurong was joined by
250 children under the age of 12. For $5, each child received a
colouring picture of KFC's mascot, and a green coupon to collect their
free ice-Milo, one piece of chicken and a cup of whipped potato, and a
free KFC toy. Many of the children's parents, friends and guardians
said the amount was a small price to pay to give their children such
an enjoyable afternoon.
The children were divided into three
categories. Category A was for those aged 5 and below, Category B for
children from ages 6 - 8 and Category C for children aged from 9 - 12.
The children were required to bring along their colouring pencils,
water or pastel paint.
To colour a picture of KFC's mascot,
the children took to the task with great spirit and enthusiasm. Some
decided upon unusual colour schemes, while their parents and guardians
looked on. The children were seated not only inside the restaurant and
outside, in the camp provided, but also on the pavement.
KFC's mascot "Superchook",
who was Jiwary, a member of staff, was brought along to every section
of the crowd by Mohd Yusri, another staff member. Awang, Surayani and
other KFC employees helped out on the sunny afternoon. Superchook
shook hands with most of the children. Soon, the atmosphere was filled
with happy chatter and sounds of laughter
The participants with the best
colouring will win a prize and these lucky children will be contacted
by telephone or through the mail. The prizes will be given out next
Friday afternoon at the same venue. Three children from each category
will receive a hamper. Also 30 consolation prizes will be given away
on the same day.
Rasidah, Shift Supervisor of KFC,
Mukim Sengkurong, said the children who entered the contest were more
than twice those who had entered the contest held previously. She is
hopeful that the next contest would attract more than 300
participants. Increasingly large numbers of residents from Kampong
Jerudong, Mukim Sengkurong A and B, Kampong Bengkurong, Jalan Jangsak
and other close-by areas attended.
Rasidah said the next colouring
contest will be held on April 25 at 2.30pm.
