Case of eight gun-toting locals
adjourned

The Bandar Supreme Magistrate's Court
yesterday adjourned the case of eight gun-toting locals, who were
allegedly caught with three riffles in the Tutong District late last
year. The case will be adjourned until May 10. The case was adjourned
after the Attorney Generals Chamber's Deputy Public Prosecutor Hj Afif
Daraina Hj Badaruddin was granted by the Magistrate.
The eight local men, aged between 30
to 40 years, three sons of Hj Ahim's, Johaimi, Jumat and Umar with Ali
Hassan Hj Halid, Yusmadi Hj Yussof, Hj Saparudin Hj Abidin, Roslin Hj
Abdullah and Abd Rahman Hj Khamis are released on court bail.
All of them were caught at the
vicinity of Ujung Jalan, Kampong Belaban, Benutan in the Tutong
District for allegedly possessing the said arms without a license
issued by the licensing officer and thereby breached rule 2 of the
Arms and Explosives Rules of the Arms and Explosive Act, Chapter 58.
If convicted guilty, they could face
a penalty of imprisonment and whipping with a maximum sentence that
stipulates 15 years and 12 strokes while the minimum sentence being 5
years and 3 strokes.
