Wild greens take over drains
By Cedrina Norlaila A. Clark

With the heavy thunderstorms that the
country has been experiencing recently, relevant authorities should be
aware that the various drains near the roads have to be maintained
properly.
These drains, pictured here at Jalan
Sungai Tampoi, in the Sengkurong area, are very wide and yet during
rainy days, the drains get blocked or the water gets trapped due to
the long grass and shrubs which grow in them.
Although a patch of green is a sight
for sore eyes, the negative consequences of grass growing in the
drains are obvious to all drivers when it is raining.
Without a clear passage for the
rain-water to seep off, the roads very quickly become flooded and
driving becomes dangerous- a battle between the driver and huge
puddles of water soon appears inevitable.
Something should be done as soon as
possible to avoid rain-water from rising to the road.
In these bushes and the tall lalang
grass that has sprung up, there could also be poisonous snakes and
insects which would pose great danger to the children who innocently
play and go fishing in this drain.
Maintenance work needs to be carried
out on this drain and others in a similarly faulty condition.
