His Majesty the Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday ended a 4-day state
visit to the Republic of Indonesia. Present at the airport to
bid farewell were Dr. Hassan Wirajuda, Minister of Foreign
Affairs of Indonesia, Mr. Bachtiar Chamsyah,
Minister of Social Affairs and
other senior government officials.
The state visit made at the
invitation of the Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri
signified strong and cordial relations which had long existed
between the two countries. One of the highlights of the visit
was His Majesty being awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in
Humanities and Culture by the Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta.
During this state visit, His
Majesty was made an honorary member of the Kopassus elite force
with a presentation of a "Main Wing", an honorary
member of another elite force, the Marinir with the presentation
of a beret and badge.
An MOU was also signed between
His Majesty's government and Indonesia on defence cooperation,
during the visit.
