A case of indecent exposure

By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Cases of indecent exposure by mentally-deranged men terrorised many women and career girls who come early to their offices and become the latest targets.

Such happenings had caused women to request for security guards to be placed at buildings in the capital.

Some of the major shopping and office complexes have their own security guards but a few of them still do not employ any.

A petite young woman who works at the first floor of a shopping centre in the capital said she has to come early to the office everyday as her husband needs to start his work early too.

She said yesterday a well-dressed man of 30 walked outside a shop specialising in wedding and women's attire which opens much later in the morning.

The man pretended to do window-shopping at the boutique and she could clearly see him as the shop is located opposite her office.

"Suddenly the man turned to face me and started unzipping his trousers.

"I was shocked and pretended to phone someone while pointing to the man.

"It worked and the man ran away," she said, adding that it was the second time the same man did that.

The first time, the man did not face her but his action clearly indicated what he was doing.

Cases of indecent exposure by men on women had also been reported by the Borneo Bulletin in the past.

The woman added that at one time a man came to her office pretending to order some materials.

"I usually locked the office door and only opened it when my office mates arrived. However, a man came pretending he wanted to order something.

"He offered me $100 for sex and I shouted at him that I am not that kind of woman.

"He then showed his wallet and asked me how much I want," she said.

She said the man - who looked like high on drugs - ran away after she threatened to call the police.
