With the outbreak of the Severe
Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) gripping some countries, all
the mosques and religious centres in the Sultanate are
performing special prayers to help evade the epidemic.
According to a press release
issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, special prayers (Sembahyang
Hajat) are performed in every mosque and religious centre after
each prayer time in the hopes that Brunei, along with its people
would be spared from the deadly SARS.
The prayers have been performed
since April 1 (29 Muharram 1424H) and will continue until
further notice. Also "Qunut Nazilah" were also recited
during the Friday Mass Prayers and will continue to be recited
until further notice. The Ministry of Religious Affairs urged
Muslim public members to congregate at nearby mosques to perform
these special prayers.
