Temburong School Again Wins The Princess Forest Prize

Bandar Seri Begawan - Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Saadatul Bolkiah yesterday attended the presentation for the 5th Princess Rashidah Young Nature Scientist Award (PRYNSA).

The Sultan Hasan Secondary School in Temburong won the award for the third time. They received a cash prize of $3,000 and the challenge trophy.

The Serasa Secondary School came in second and third was the Sultan Sharif Ali Seconday School.

The Princess later received a souvenir from the organising committee.

Every year, all secondary schools in the sultanate are invited to submit project proposals for consideration and only five are chosen as finalists.

Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah accompanied the Princess who is also the royal patron of PRYNSA.

The Princesses were greeted on arrival at the Industry and Primary Resources Ministry premises by the Minister, Pehin Dato Awang Haji Abdul Rahman.

In his welcoming speech, the chairman of the organising committee, Awang Haji Zaidin bin Salleh who is also Acting Director of the Forestry Department said that Brunei is known as one of the greenest country in the world.

He emphasised that having conservation policies in place are not enough and that it is the longer term outlook that will ultimately decide the faith of the sultanate's forest.

PRYNSA is the brainchild of the Forestry Department. It was launched in 1997 with the aim of nurturing excellence among the younger people in the field of Natural Sciences.

This is the fifth year that the award has been organised. The project is supported by the Brunei Shell Petroleum Company.
