Company Fined For Hiring Malaysian
On A Social Visit Pass

Kuala Belait - A
general contractor and building Maintenance Company was yesterday
fined $1,500 or two months in prison in default at the Kuala Belait
Magistrate's Court, for employing a Malaysian who was working with a
social visit pass.

represented by its director, Hj Massod bin Hj Md Salleh, 57, was fined
for employing Saidi bin Soining, 28, who was holding a social visit
pass without any consent to the Controller of Immigration.
Facts of the case tendered in court
stated that on March 14 this year, the company undertook renovation
works at the ground and first floor of a bank in Seria and five
workers were allocated to work at the site.
On March 25 acting on public tip off,
Immigration officers inspected the site where nine workers were found
working and one of them was Saidi who was suspected of breaching the
Immigration Act, said the Immigration Prosecuting Officer Reduan bin
Hj Adnan.
Investigation revealed that Saidi was
employed by the company as a mason with a promised salary of $48 a
day. When Saidi was caught, he was found to have been working with the
company for only three days.
The company was charged under Section
55(1) (e) in court yesterday before Magistrate Dk Masni binte Pg Hj
Bahar. The offence carries a maximum imprisonment term of not more
