A 27-year-old man who committed
theft of two sets of 29-inch TVs and a video player was
sentenced to one-year imprisonment yesterday after he pleaded
guilty to doing so.
Currently he is serving a
four-year jail sentence for extortion.
As revealed in the statement of
facts, the defendant, Kamarul Zaman Bahrom on August 23, 1998
was resting on the stairs of Block B-2 of the Chempaka building
leading to Lux (B) Sdn Bhd office and whilst doing so, he saw
the said office and decided to commit theft of potential
valuables inside the office.
He forced opened the main door
leading to the said office, and saw the valuable items. Seeing
that no one was around, he carried all the items to his car that
was parked near the said building.
He immediately left the said
building and went home to his house in Kg Tamoi Tengah.
The manager of the said office
reported the theft incident the next day at the BSB Central
Police Station.
Investigations commenced and a
team of police personnel from the Fingerprint Unit were called
in to conduct fingerprint lifting. As a result, the team
successfully lifted 9 prints from various areas inside the said
office.
The same prints were studied
and compared with the records of previous offenders and was
found identical to the defendant's prints.
