from the suspects.
It's not just valuable properties
and items that are being stolen nowadays. Road signboards too
have became the latest items being stolen in return for cash.
Three unemployed locals, two
males and a female, were arrested recently by four personnel of
the Berakas police station at 3.12 am at the round-about near
the Indoor stadium and the International Convention Centre in
Berakas.
The police stopped a saloon car
and found 18 road signboards hidden at the passenger's seat and
covered with clothes.
The police contacted CID's and
the three were brought to the Berakas police station for
investigation.
The three admitted stealing the
Public Works Department's properties at Tanah Jambu roads,
Sungai Akar and stadium roads. According to the District
Criminal Officer of the Berakas Police District, these
signboards were meant to be sold to the scrap metal company for
cash.
Also confiscated were tools
used to dismantle the signboards. The bulletin learnt the
signboards thefts were not the first of kind being detected.
Previous cases were detected by the Sengkurong and Belait
police. Each kilogram of aluminium metal costs 70 cents. Also
seized was a saloon car used in this activity.
