The Royal Brunei Navy and the
Philippine Navy is currently holding a week long naval exercise
in Brunei. The exercise codenamed "Exercise Seagull
01-03", will be the first in a series of bilateral naval
exercises between the two navies.
Yesterday morning, the Acting
Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy, Lt. Col. (L) Haji Joharie
bin Haji Matussin received a courtesy call from the Deputy
Commander Task Group of the visiting Philippine Navy, Captain
Vicente M Agdamag at the RBN headquarters in Muara.
Meanwhile in a separate room,
the opening ceremony of Exercise Seagull 01-03 was also held
yesterday.
The Deputy Commander of the RBN
Lt. Col. Jorsni bin Haji Lamat officially opened the exercise.
A total of seven ships, five
from the Royal Brunei Navy and two from the Philippine Navy, are
taking part in this inaugural exercise.
It will also involve two
hundred and fifty personnel from both navies.
The exercise aims to strengthen
the bilateral relationship and enhance inter-operability, mutual
cooperation and understanding between the two navies.
These aims are to be achieved
through the conduct of exercise events using common operational
doctrines, procedures and tactics.
It will also provide personnel
the experience of working together and develop camaraderie.
