Brunei District Office Targets
Song And Snooker
By CT Hj Mahmod
Bandar Seri
Begawan - It seems end of song for the Brunei/Muara District
region as officials give a stern warning to Karaoke and snooker
joints to cease all activities immediately.
The warning comes as enforcement
officers raided two places - a karaoke entertainment center and a
snooker place -- at No 591 Kampong Lumapas on Thursday. Further raids
are expected.
This appears to be part of the
sultanate's relentless efforts to curb undesirable activities as well
as to catch illegal immigrants. Towards this a joint operation,
codenamed ops 'Sepadu Bahagia 02', was conducted Thursday night, which
saw the detention of an Indonesian man.
The operation which lasted from 9.30
pm till 11.30 pm, targeted Kampong Lumapas and Kampong Bengkurong, all
near the Brunei capital where four law enforcement agencies joined
forces.
Some 26 police personnel were
involved - 12 from Jerudong and Limau Manis police stations, headed by
DSP Hj Mohd. Hassan bin Pehin Penyurat Hj Ahmad, Jerudong Assistant
Officer Commanding District, and 14 personnel from Bandar police
station led by P/Insp Hj Hasnul Fikri bin Hj Metussin, Crime Officer
took part in the operation.
Heading the nine officers from
Customs and Excise Department was ASC Awg Hj Mohammad bin Omar,
Prevention Unit Officer, while 11 Immigration Department personnel
were led by Head Immigration Officer, Awg Ismail bin Dubai, Acting
Head of Law Enforcement Unit.
Whereas, six personnel from the
Brunei/Muara District Office which Pg. Abd. Haris bin Pg. Hj Shahbudin,
Assistant Officer of Brunei/Muara District headed also took part in
the operation.
'Ops Sepadu Bahagia 02' was the
second such joint operation conducted by the Jerudong Police district
this year with the help of the various law enforcement agencies in
carrying out surprise raids on entertainment joints or places that
attract many patrons, and residential areas of foreign labourers.
This is seen as one step to enhance
crime prevention this year.
On Thursday night two places were
inspected - a karaoke entertainment centre and snooker place located
at No.591 Kg Lumapas, and foreign labourers' residential area at Ideal
Multifeed Farm Sdn. Bhd., Jln Bengkurong/Masin.
An Indonesian man, apprehended for
failing to produce valid documents, is being remanded at Sengkurong
Police Station, for further investigation. He will be sent to the Law
Enforcement Unit at the Immigration Department for further action and
will be charged if he is suspected of violating any laws.
Whereas, nine undeclared 'Gudang
Garam' cigarette packages were confiscated by the Customs and Excise
Department.
Brunei/Muara District Office gave
written warnings to owners of the karoake entertainment and snooker
place to cease all activities. Further inspection will be conducted
randomly in the near future, officials said. (Courtesy of Borneo
