the new headquarters.
Basmida House has now moved to its
new headquarters in Anggerek Desa.
The six unit flat was provided
to the Basmida association in order for them to better conduct
their community activities.
Having moved thrice in the
past, the voluntary staff of Basmida can now provide their
services at a convenient location.
The new headquarters is
currently under renovation and maintenance works.
Once the renovations and works
are completed, the staff hope to conduct a number of activities
which will benefit not only the Rakan Basmida but also other
individuals who would like to help and volunteer their services
with Basmida.
Lectures, counselling courses
and leadership courses are just some of the modes of learning
that the Basmida House hopes to provide to the general public.
It also wishes to extend its
courses to students to train them to become qualified peer
counsellors.
The art of peer counselling has
been an effective way of reaching to youths and informing them
of the dangers of drugs.
Other courses to be implemented
intend to provide the numerous Rakan Basmida the necessary
social skills required to succeed in the outside world.
Currently, there is an
estimated 50 or more Rakan Basmida registered with the
association and after the new Basmida House is officially
opened, these Rakan Basmida are welcome to come forward to
either ask or give their assistance.
According to Ali Yusri Abd
Ghaffor - Head of Education Bureau for Basmida, one of the aims
of Basmida is to welcome young people to come and increase their
awareness on the problems of drug abuse and ways of prevention.
"We are here to teach
these young people how to say no to drugs. We also hope that the
public will offer us their assistance in achieving our goals and
objectives which is to rid our society of the ills of drug
abuse," clarified Ali Yusri.
The new Basmida House is
situated at Spg 32-37, Block B29, Anggerek Desa Flats.
