Brunei's Tithe Collection Gets
$4.5 Million For The Needy

Begawan - Needy people in the sultanate received assistance
from the tithe collection fund run by the Brunei Islamic Religious
Council and $4,542,598 from last year's collection has been
distributed to the needy.
The Religious Affairs Minister Pehin
Dato Dr Uztaz Awang Haji Mohd Zain disclosed this during the opening
ceremony of a meeting between tithe collectors throughout the
sultanate yesterday.
Pehin Mohd Zain also noted that there
have been reports lately about the difficulties faced by poor families
in bringing up their children and in having comfortable homes.
The meeting was aimed at providing
guidelines to tithe collectors and how to plan and implement and
identify those who really need help in accordance with the Syarah Law
and principles.
Meanwhile various schemes to help the
poor have been designed by the Islamic Religious Council based on the
desire and requirement of those who qualify to receive the money from
the collection of tithe.
Last year a total of $354,159 was
spent to assist the needy of Fakir Miskin on a scheme to help to
provide shelter.
Meanwhile, 77 needy families
benefited from an aid scheme for food and drinks for their daily
necessities. A total of $57, 960 was allocated for the scheme.
Other assistance was also rendered to
fire victims and those hit by other disasters in donating school
uniforms, books, bags and shoes.
Farming and fishing equipment were
among the daily needs given to the needy.
