Passes In KB Immigration Raid
By Liza Mohd
Kuala Belait - A
Filipino man and woman were both issued special passes when they
failed to provide proper documents to prove their stay in Brunei was
valid, during a raid on Wednesday night by nine officers from the
Kuala Belait Immigration Department.
The Soon Lee Farm and Machinery Work
quarters in Kg Sg Liang were among the targets of the raid. However no
workers were caught breaching the Immigration rules.
A rented house occupied by foreign
workers along the Lumut by-pass was also inspected, but the workers
proved that their stay in the country was legal.
The Filipino man and woman were
caught in a house at Jalan Maulana, Kuala Belait and both were issued
with special passes, pending settlement of their cases.
A total of 19 workers were inspected
during the raid, which started at about 9.30 pm and ended after
midnight.
The purposes of the raid led by Chief
Immigration Officer, Awg Sulaiman bin Hj Hidup was to conduct
inspections at the residences and rented houses of foreign workers.
This was to ensure that they did not breach the Immigration Act and
Rules. There have been a number of cases involving runaway workers and
immigration offenders in the district recently.
