A two-day course organised by
the Orchid Garden Hotel and Fire Services Department took place
at the Fire Services Training Centre yesterday. The course was
aimed to educate and inform the public about fire prevention and
safety measures.
Around 20 staff from different
departments of Orchid Garden Hotel took part in the course, led
by Officer Noorzali Apong from the Public Relation &
Education Department
He stressed that the objective
of the training was to help increase public awareness that every
blaze originates from a small fire. Fires intensify and spread
when no action is taken to put them out.
He also added that the training
would help increase knowledge on the proper use of fire fighting
equipment like fire hoses and fire extinguishers. Lastly, he
said that the training would also help guide participants on the
correct way of evacuating people from a burning building and how
to conduct fire drills.
In the training, participants
were given a practical and hands on experience of setting up
fire hoses in a dry and wet practical drill.
One of the participants, Mohd
Iswandi who is also the building emergency controller of Orchid
Garden Hotel said that he is thankful the Fire Services
Department could help them gain valuable experience in fire
fighting techniques in case of fire emergencies.
By making the participants
practise how to set up fire hoses as well as learn the proper
way of using fire extinguishers, the staff can identify their
mistakes and rectify it to handle real life situations they
encounter, swiftly and efficiently.
