Get rid of the trash!

By Liza Mohd

With Ching Ming day drawing near (April 5), Chinese throughout the country have been seen flocking to cemeteries to pay their respects to deceased relatives. Tombstones would be cleaned, food would be displayed and prayers would be offered to the dead during this annual event. As the number of people heading for the cemetery increases so does the rubbish. According to a caretaker of the Kuala Belait Chinese Cemetery in Jalan Maulana, it is normal to see mounting rubbish piled up at the entrance of the cemetery as visitors often rushed to offer their respects before the day is done. Photo shows rubbish gathered at the entrance, which is an eyesore.
