Last weekend, Universiti Brunei
Darussalam (UBD) held a religious ceremony marking the closing
of the 'Awal Tahun Hijrah' celebration, in which a mass Maghrib
prayer was performed followed by a religious talk on 'Tahun
Hijrah'.
The Youth Motivational Camp,
jointly organised by BERANI, MPKR, and Takmir Masjid University
Organising committee came to a close in which Dato Paduka Awg Hj
Rahman bin Hj Ibrahim, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of
Finance, presented certificates to the participants.
Dr. Ampuan Hj Brahim bin Ampuan
Hj Tengah, Chairman of the Takmir Masjid organising committee,
highlighted that the 'youth camp was aimed to instill the
Islamic attitude of helping one another, sincerity, respect and
responsibility, which were of most importance'.
The four-day youth camp, which
ran from March 26 to 29, was aimed to instill among the
participants the spirit to face challenges in life, to enhance
their capability towards being active, caring, wise and to gain
knowledge in any field that is not taught formally in schools,
to be polite to the elders, as well as to widen their mentality
on society.
Among other objectives were to
enhance participants' creativity, to help them to become pious
youths and to expose them to life related issues.
The highlight of the religious
event was a conversion ceremony of a 25-year-old male foreign
worker by the name of Loaher bin George Jhonny.
His new Muslim name is Awg
Ahmad Daniel Abdullah George.
A welcoming ceremony for UBD
staff as well as residents of nearby village who had performed
their Haj pilgrimage was also held.
