Fitness Centre Supervisor Fined For Illegal Liquor

Bandar Seri Begawan - The supervisor of a hotel's Exercise and Fitness Centre in Berakas was fined a thousand dollars after he pleaded guilty to conveying smuggled liquor at the basement of the hotel.

Ang Thian Wee, 52, was detained with another person when they were seen carrying two boxes and a bag from the car.

Customs Preventive who acted upon public tip off followed a car registered BT 1315 while making a surveillance in the area.

The officers found 120 cans of Tiger beer in the boxes and the bag. Ang's companion worked in the same hotel as a cleaner, the court heard.

Ang confessed during investigations that he had bought the smuggled the beer through Limbang border nearby the Kuala Lurah Control Post two weeks ago.

The beer was for a party with friends on Sunday. Unfortunately they were caught three days earlier before they could enjoy it.

No Customs permit was submitted to the officers saying that the $100 worth of beer were being imported, the court heard. (Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin)
