The war in Iraq has caused many
people to subscribe to Kristal and Astro as they would not want
to miss the live transmissions of the war news, observers said.
Authorised dealers also
reported that there had been an increase in demand for cable
news subscription as more and more viewers tuned in to watch the
latest news updates on the war.
Though some people thought that
some channels had been providing biased reports on the war, they
agreed that the service also provides choices to viewers with
regards to favoured news channels, observers said.
There were also reports that
some people had purchased extra sets to cater for the families'
varying needs.
Apart from cable television,
the population could also view Malaysian channels as well as the
local news broadcasts from Radio Television Brunei.
"I purchased an extra set
so I could concentrate on the war while my wife and children
could have a free hand on the other set," said one
subscriber.
Observers also said that the
local television broadcaster could benefit by increasing their
coverage to boost ratings and attract more advertisers.
