Long queues were spotted outside the
Immigration, Registration of Nationals and National Registration
Headquarters yesterday morning as crowds flocked to the headquarters
to make their new Smart Identity Cards. The crowd comprised of local
yellow IC holders, permanent residents holding the purple IC as well
as foreign nationals working in the country who were waiting to renew
their green Smarts ICs.
Most of the people had queued up as
early as 6.00am to avoid rushing, due to the limited numbers issued by
authorities. Some just managed to get a number, while many were turned
away.
The number of people is limited to
200 per day, 100 each for both the morning and afternoon sessions.
Saturday was the peak day as Friday
and Sunday were the Government off days.
The department said that foreign
nationals who had held the Immigration Pass for more than 3 months
could register for the green Smart ICs .
