Women Are Number One Feline Lovers

Bandar Seri Begawan – Women make up the majority of cat customers in pet shops, entrepreneurs in the pet business said.

Cats usually top the list of popular animals purchased from her shop, a pet shop owner said.

Because cats have been around since Cleopatra’s time or because Bruneians’ love for cats are instinctive, cats are here to stay.

Cats are the first domesticated animals around.

Bruneians, young and old, are cat-loving people.  It is common to spot cats wandering around the house, in the garden or in the neighbourhood,

Bruneians love Persian cats because of their long coat and the colour of the coat as well, said a popular pet shop employee.

Persian cats will live in peace with other animals such as dogs and they will also live peacefully with children, making them a popular choice for house pets, she said.

Apart from ‘inheriting’ cats or adopting one or a litter of cats, people also buy them, especially Persian cats.

“Cats are easy and cheap to look after.  They do need a lot of tender loving care from their owners, but if you love cats, then it’s not hard,” said a shop owner.

Her advice is to always take good care and send them to the veterinarian for yearly check ups.

Cats need to have their nails regularly clipped, she said. And take them for dental examination.

Fish is also a popular choice for pets.  The Arowana fish and the Gorami fish are popular among the Chinese and the Malays, said a pet shop owner in the capital.

But overall, our feline friends are still number one.
